Introduction
Drug Self-administration methodology is central to the experimental analysis of drug abuse and dependence (addiction). It constitutes a key technique in numerous investigations of drug intake and its neurobiological basis and has even been described as the “gold standard" among the behavioral methods in the field. Drug Discrimination is widely recognized as one of the major methods for studying the behavioral and neuropharmacological effects of psychoactive drugs and plays an important role in drug discovery and investigations of drug abuse. Important information: the future of the database Users of this site will be aware that the project has been funded by the US National Institute on Drug Abuse since its inception in 1985. This support will end on 30 June 2012. The application for renewal of funding was unsuccessful. Arrangements are beng made for users to download the master files of the database from society websites. These files are in the format of Reference Manager. Individual users who have a recent version of Reference Manager installed on their computer will be able search the files, generate bibliographies, etc. A plain text version of the file contents will also be available. At this time the current files may be downloaded from the publications tab of the website of the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society. Plans are being made for limited updating of these files despite the loss of the funding. Details of these arrangements will be displayed here when they are known. Update of February 2012: The database has been enlarged to include additional, recently published work. Publications available online are included and can be located by searching PubMed or, in some cases, by using the link to MEDLINE abstracts that appears below the bibliographic details in the list of references retrieved by a search. Volume and page numbers will be added when available. How to cite the database in publications: Advice on citing the database in publications has been added to the FAQ and to the About Database page. |
