The morning-after pill

The morning-after pill is not a contraceptive in the true sense, but a form of emergency contraception that can be used, when the actual prevention fails (e.g. condom ripped).

Other names for the morning-after pill are postkoitale pill or the morning after pill. Ulipristalacetat is a so-called selective progesterone receptor modulator. An effect of the hormone is progesterone normally to prepare the endometrium for the nesting of a fertilized egg. The active substance of Ulipristalacetat prevents that the progesterone here can have effect and makes it therefore impossible for an implantation.

Interested parties can take up to five days after unprotected intercourse the new morning-after pill. Vomiting occurs three hours after taking a second pill must be taken.

Taking the morning-after pill is not considered abortion according to the requirements of section 218 of the Criminal Code (StGB). She should be still viewed as a method of contraception or regularly applied as such. This pill is recommended after unprotected traffic, a prevention range (e.g. torn condom) or after a rape.
